IS IT SAFE TO START WATERING AGAIN?

While the State of California is still in a drought situation, many of the local water authorities have eased the watering restrictions for their areas. The Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) has moved from Stage 3 watering restrictions to a modified version of their original Stage 1 restrictions. According to the RPU website, this means that:
• RPU customers can feel free to water as they wish, but as always, please consider conservation.
• Customers may water anytime of the day or night, with no restricted hours.

While some water use restrictions are easing, others have become state law. These wasteful activities are now prohibited across California and would be considered unreasonable uses of water:
• Hosing off sidewalks, driveways and other hardscapes with drinking water
• Washing automobiles with hoses not equipped with a shut-off nozzle
• Using non-recirculated water in a fountain or other decorative water feature
• Watering lawns in a manner that that causes runoff, or within 48 hours after measurable precipitation
• Irrigating within 48 hours of rainfall
• Substantial irrigation runoff
